E 450 V 10 MPG

I'm wondering if my mpg will improve as the mileage on engine increases?
My 31' weighs in at 13986. It's a 2011 with 7000 miles on it now. The best mpg so far has been 7.6. Babying it from Maine to Ct. all interstate.
Any ideas?

  • I'm not upset about the mpg I'm getting. I just noticed posting reporting 9 to 13 mpg and was wondering how they achieve these numbers.
I've heard that if you have your family jump up and down while underway it will lower the axle weight and improve mileage....?
  • Picked up 2009 Itasca Cambia in Minnesota and drove back to California. Brought my scan gauge with me and got as high as 12 and as low a 6. used cruise control

and sometimes not. i found that 62mph was the sweet spot and usually around 9mpg.That was flat and steady with occasional hills it dropped quickly as speed

increased. At 55 -62 was the best. Checked it both by hand and the scan gauge. I just fill up and drive. If I was concerned about mileage I wouldn't have purchased

this coach. I watch my BIL fill his diesel pusher and I feel better.

Usually I top off and it's around 125 bucks or so, i think about the crappy hotel rooms I stayed in for that and i smile....
  • I have the 2005 thur four winds P31, About the same as yours, Just turned 27777 miles. On a 3450 mile trip I got a low of 7.8 and a high of 13.2 at the end I averaged it out at 10.7 But we carry a lot of extra weight. Ed
  • The only time our 27 foot recorded that low of mpg, was when we were driving west across Wyoming on the Interstate in a strong wind advisory. Just finished a trip across I 80 in PA, driving the speed limit on cruise control, and recorded 9.2 mpg both east and west across the mountains. I am at least 1000 pounds lighter than what you indicated. My thoughts: First, yes I think your mpg will increase as the engine breaks in, ours did. Next, do not carry more fresh water than you need. Do not completely fill the tank unless you expect to boon dock. To the degree possible, drive with an empty gray tank. Views differ on the black tank. Do not carry more stuff than you can reasonably expect to need/use. Finally, your indicated weight puts you awfully close to the max weight for the chassis GVWR. Did that weight include all occupants and stuff?
    Best wishes, Bob
  • We have just shy of 23,000 miles on our 32' motorhome and haven't seen an improvement with age. The only way I've found to improve gas mileage is to slow down. Generally, we see about 7.5 - 8.5 mpg.

  • Most RVs wouldn't get 10 MPG on the way down if it fell out of a tree. Just remember that you're driving a house.
  • Probably not. My 29' Class C runs about the same MPG as you mentioned. I have been able to squeak 9.1 out of it only twice. That was in almost perfect conditions, flat land interstate, no crise control. I usually get about 7.3 MPG. Heck, it is what it is so just enjoy the scenery and don't worry too much about mileage. Happy camping.
