Electric Plug in question

When I plug my motorhome in at home using the 110 outlet I always get an arcing sound, is there something I can buy to plug into my wall outlet to use as an on off switch or some other solution to stop the arcing.

Thanks

The small arc is caused by power going to the coils of the transfer switch. Turning off the main circuit breaker will make no difference.

Not in the RV, but turning off the breaker to the plug in the garage/house will make a difference. No power to the plug - no electricity to arc when the plug is inserted.

    IDK about that
Does a trailer without a generator have a transfer switch
After all its not needed, MFG don't spend money on something not needed
That arc is the from the converter, and running off the main breaker will stop it,

Besides that...most 30 amp transfer switches only throw one way and only energize when the generator is running, and use the normally close contracts for the shore power, do the arc is still the converter, not the transfer switch

Wasn't the owner talking about his Georgetown motor home that does have a generator?

    Dang speak check.
  • You could just turn off the main breakers in the RV.

Or if you are ever inclined to install an energy management system surge protector this will also stop any arcing at home and away. Power is not connected until voltage, ground and polarity is checked as stable for about a minute before power is connected.

  • The arcing comes from a load waiting for power like the charger. You could also replace the plug with a single plug with switch combination which is available at any hardware store.

I plug into my garage 20AMP service next to my garage door. It is easy for me to just throw the garage 20AMP circuit breaker then plug-in. Once plugged in I can turn the 20AMP circuit breaker back ON...

I guess you could also just throw your trailer MAIN 30AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER before plugging in the shore power cable.

x2. Do exactly the same here, and no problems.
  • You can buy short pigtail connectors with on off or a power strip rated at 20amps with an on off switch.

Other option is to turn off the main breaker on the MH power panel, plug in and then flip it on.
