Electric Step Power - Engine Battery?

Howdy Folks,
Just wondering. I have a 2003 Winnie Mini. Just found out the electric step is powered from the engine battery, not the coach battery. At least it activated when I connected the engine battery. Is that the way it is with most Class C's? Or did I get tricked and when I connected the engine battery, the starter/retract switch changed states only and it really is powered by the coach battery like I would prefer. Thanks to all who reply.

  • i am wondering about engine only vs. house batt w/ engine over-ride?
  • My 4 different RV's all were powered from the engine battery ! So the only thing that draws from it are the radio, steps and when it is used to start. Be sure you have the switch set so the steps stay out when camped so they won't go out every time the door is open and closed ..
  • Depends on the rig. My Jamboree steps were connected to the chassis battery and that almost left me stranded when my kids drained the coach battery watching TV and constant use of steps placed big drain on chassis battery. I moved mine over to the coach battery - something you might consider doing.
