Worried about surges, voltage, polarity, etc. I purchased a Electrical management system from camping world. I'm also concerned about theft of this unit so what I would like to do is put it inside my locked electrical bay, run a cord to the post, and then plug my coiled cord to the out of sight protector. My owners manual says I should not use an extension cord with my coach cord. Any thoughts on hooking up this way?

Hi Olga,You can use a heavy duty cord with wire the same size or larger than the OEM shore power cord.Another strategy would be to shorten the shore power cord, put on a new male end and plug it into your ems (what did you buy?). Then add a female end to the left over OEM shore power cord.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep the portable unit as I just bought it. It's a EMS-PT30C Progressive indutries Portable Electric Management system. I should have thought about a hard wired unit as it would have been seamless. I may shorten the coach cord as to Pianotuna's reply. Makes sense.

Makes sense.I hear you, But if you have the receipt it's Not too late to exchange.Why hack up your cord to make the portable semi hardwired? Won't you still need and additional plug to do it that way?

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep the portable unit as I just bought it. It's a EMS-PT30C Progressive indutries Portable Electric Management system. I should have thought about a hard wired unit as it would have been seamless. I may shorten the coach cord as to Pianotuna's reply. Makes sense.
