Electrical hookup Question

Worried about surges, voltage, polarity, etc. I purchased a Electrical management system from camping world. I'm also concerned about theft of this unit so what I would like to do is put it inside my locked electrical bay, run a cord to the post, and then plug my coiled cord to the out of sight protector. My owners manual says I should not use an extension cord with my coach cord. Any thoughts on hooking up this way?

  • Thanks for the replies. I'll keep the portable unit as I just bought it. It's a EMS-PT30C Progressive indutries Portable Electric Management system. I should have thought about a hard wired unit as it would have been seamless. I may shorten the coach cord as to Pianotuna's reply. Makes sense.

    Hi Olga,

You can use a heavy duty cord with wire the same size or larger than the OEM shore power cord.

Another strategy would be to shorten the shore power cord, put on a new male end and plug it into your ems (what did you buy?). Then add a female end to the left over OEM shore power cord.

If your going to do that why not get a hard wired surge guard and wire it in as designed and ditch the portable unit altogether
