Dale: When the battery was initially dead, the steps did not extend/retract at all. But after it was charged, the steps worked fine.
Thank you for all the advice. I also found this video which helped me a lot as well. It explains how you can find out whether you have a bad battery or a bad alternator.

I'm planning on running the diagnostics shown in the 2nd video to see where the issue may lie. I will report back. Darn day job is getting in the way of my RV repair career.
