Carbon dioxide tends to diffuse through rubber comparatively easily, so it's not ideal for filling tires, but would certainly be far, far better to driving on underinflated tires. (They might need topping up a little bit more frequently.
I'll take your word for it but I've been using it for years and haven't noticed anything like that.
