Engine Monitoring

I have a DP and have been thinking about buying a Silerleaf Monitoring system.

Are they rally useful of just an easy way to have a second speedometer and a set of gauges? Some folks have them and others don't, I use a surge protector and Tpms and think they are worth the money. Just not sure on the Silverleaf. I have a 2004 Monaco Dip.

As always thanks for your thoughts.

  • I have the SilverLeaf 330 had it installed at SilverLeaf in Junction City. I like this type of gauge because in my Ford I have the Edge Insight CTS another great tool. The Scangauge is good but will show just a few things at one time plus I'm a plug and play guy.

  • I used the Silverleaf. I have a 10.5" monitor mounted left low by the dash with the Silverleaf display. A netbook is mounted on my right with a GPS program running. I am very pleased with the setup with the exception I have a problem seeing the netbook in the sun.
  • The Silverleaf seems like it has more loops to monitor than what I use. For OBD II gas rigs this is really cheap and uses Bluetooth to my phone or my Samsung tablet. I could also use the laptop. The technology is great.

I have one and wouldn't be without it. Setting the display up is very easy and can show a variety if parameters, way more than spedo, MPG, etc. I suggest you spend some time here http://www.silverleafelectronics.com/node/1?q=node/19 and check out exactly what can be monitored. You can also get software for free that you download on your laptop and get a chance to play around with it. The software is free but the cabling is about $400, a lot cheaper than the dash mount.

  • An engine monitor will pay for itself. I have used a Silverleaf VMSpc for about 10 years. When I bought a new MH it was one of the first things I installed. Comparing it to Scangauge D I would say the difference is that VMSpc uses a laptop and Scangauge D does not. The laptop provides a large screen and allows logging of data. I have my laptop handy anyway because I use it for GPS. I can vouch for VMSpc and their excellent customer support. Scangauge D looks good from their online description. I would not decide based on cost because an engine monitor will pay for itself many times over.
  • The best monitoring tool I have used to date is a Dasdaq. I also use it to tune my truck via Spartan Diesel.

They also let you data log, read and clear code on most vehicles. You can get advanced parameters for different vehicles too. Pricey but, the best monitor out there.

  • If it is anything like the ScanGauge II we have for our post 1996 stuff I would say go for it. These kinds of tools permit your engine to 'talk' with you in real time. Having a back up to normal cabin gauges is a huge plus we find.
  • I like the "Scangauge D",it is less money,about $ 150
    Just Google it.
