When I drove a truck in the early 70's, we had a couple of units that had these. Inverter technology outpaced them. They were used to run refrigerant systems on insulated boxes. These had shore lines for parking. When in use, they upped fuel consumption by quite a bit. A high output alternator with a high power inverter will probably do a better job if you need it while moving. If you need it parked, I'd use a shoreline.
