EPDM roof compared to fiberglass roof

We are planning on buying our first motorhome soon. It will be a used DP, probably 12 to 18 years old. We have a carefully thought-out list of requirements. Finding one that has everything on our wish list is tough, so tradeoffs are involved.

One of my requirements has been a fiberglass roof, simply because I worry about the maintenance costs and bother on an EPDM rubber roof that is 12 or more years old to start, and I've assumed that fiberglass would be much better. I feel like I’m too old to mess with continuing maintenance on the roof myself, and hiring it done in our remote location would be a bother.

If necessary, I might be willing to replace an EPDM roof straight off so that I’m starting with a new one to minimize trouble over the 10 or 15 years I hope to own the coach. I could factor in the cost of that compared to the fiberglass-roofed competition.

Is fiberglass roof something I should be more willing to compromise on? On an older coach, are they really far less trouble compared to EPDM?

Thanks!

Wayne

    yes
they really are far less trouble
  • If the rubber roof is not totally destroyed you should
Be able to coat it with one of the new products
Out there. I used Bus Kote and virtually saved my
roof. Worked so good I used it on the exposed
Portion of the awning. Worked way better than spending big bucks on a new roof. And you
Can redo if need be. A few years ago this wouold not be possible.
