Ever tow a pop-up behind your class A?

I'm planning a trip for 6 of us in our HR including my 95 year-old mother and 3 adult children. There are not enough beds in the coach and none of us is willing to sleep on the ground in a tent anymore. I'm considering towing a small pop-up for an extra bedroom and storage space. Have any of you done this and how did it work out?

Thanks;

Miles

  • Some camp grounds, especially state campgrounds only allow 1 camping unit per site. Make sure you check ahead of time what the requirements are for every place you stay. If they only allow one unit, you may have difficulty getting side by side sites, unless you book ahead of time.
  • Our kids are still working and on occasion, it was easier for us to tow their tent trailer, behind our DP, to a campground and they would meet us later. I figured if anyone asked, I would tell them it was the maid's quarters.
  • We towed tent camper behind the Winnebago LeSharo. Worked great. The LaSharo was small enough to be a good touring car at 19 feet with seating for 8. Tent camper was perfect for kids and friends. Toured from WI to Boston and down coast to NYC and DC and home. I attended and worked a convention while on the trip. It was great.
  • We used to do just that. Teens appreciate their own space. They also stay up later than we do. We never had an issue backing up but we had a 27' Winnie back then. We always asked for two sites. It would be tacky to try to avoid paying for another site, considering......Dennis

    I've always wanted to take a picture of a tear drop TT behind my DP with "Mother-in-Law Suite" written across the back of it.:B You will find it's easier to back up than you might think as the overhang off the back makes up for the short trailer.
  • we have done and it is no problem just pay attention when turning and backing up. Get going and enjoy the trip.

  • If you do just remember it's going to be short and your motorhome is going to be long so it would be extremely difficult to back it up. If you get a wheel for the front jack and if you have a light enough pop-up you may be able to push it around by hand. You'll also have to be concerned about RV parks and will they make you get two campsites or not.

    I did once run into a guy at a campground that was towing a TT behind his class C. He had something like 8 kids and between the Class C and the TT they all got their own beds.
