Before you put a penny out to be destroyed, make sure it's not a 1943 copper penny. They are worth about $80,000 each. One sold for $200,000 in 2004.
In 1943, only steel pennies were issued. A few copper pennies got through and are worth a fortune. They say about 40 copper pennies were produced, 12 confirmed to exist (per wikipedia). But, you never know, you might find one.:D
