Excessive heat coming into cabin

We are pt rv'rs with a 2007 Gulfstream Yellowstone front end diesel. My husband has been having a forceful stream of hot air coming from somewhere under the dash, near the gas pedal and it is making him miserable! We are traveling through Montana right now so we found a Cummins repair shop in Billings who took a look at it today. They said a piece of carpet was not properly secured and it created a vent of engine heat right to that area. They also said the screws holding the carpet were stripped so they replaced them. Now, we had the carpet replaced last year, but this was an issue before that was done. This is our longest/furthest trip yet so it is very evident!!! Kent says it helped some after the shop worked on it today but he still feels heat. Any ideas?

  • We had problems with air entry. Factory used several cans of foam some that expanded a little and some that expanded a lot. Now the dust, heat and noise is way down. The door closing with dash ac running has a noticeable effect on hearing. It's a lot tighter.
  • Time to get down there with a strong light in the engine compartment and physically looking for any light shining inside by the driver's feet. Then you have to close every hole with some type of under hood insulation that can resist heat and sell all openings. I am sure that in addition to heat, there is engine noise that is also coming in to the cockpit that can be eliminated by properly sealing all holes in the firewall and around the dog house.
  • Yea been there, Mine turned into a blast furnace at one point.
I found a lot of openings around the floor area and closed all them up with reflective adhesive foil and it is a huge improvement.
