What is your air filter minder reading-- it indicates blockage of air to the engine intake? OR, how old is your air filter?
Check that exhaust brake is fully open. Lubricating it on schedule helps keep it working properly. If PacBrake: http://pacbrake.com/supplemental-brakes/prxb-exhaust-brakes/maintenance/
When was the last time you cleaned the front of your CAC (Charge Air Cooler)? If dirty, intake air temperatures can sky rocket. Affects any diesel engine.
If none of the above, take it to a Caterpillar dealer before you do damage.
