I would not remove any rubber shields surrounding the radiator. When you get into a heavy pull on steep grades at slower speeds the hot engine compartment heat can recirculate right back around the radiator and cause overheating.
I went to a company like Home Depot & bought rectangular hot air heating ducts with round 8" spouts and mounted the rectangular end under each side of my front bumper & used 8" flexible metal hose with the end pointing air at the front of the engine ahead of the exhaust manifolds. The floor is also cooler.
