Hi...... I'm new to this forum and I am trying to glean as much info about this issue as I can I hope no one minds if I ask in this thread.
I recently purchased a '98 Winnebago 33WQ ('97 F53 chassis) with this same 460 engine. The coach has only 20K miles and has not had the leaking manifold issue (yet). My goal is to avoid it as reasonably $ as I can.
I've read a lot of posts about the issue and I agree that the Banks system is the best solution. I have obtained a new set of Banks headers (specifically designed for this coach) but I lack the "Y-Pipe" and "Y-pipe connector" (to the left manifold) to run into s single exhaust. The previous owner of these manifolds was going to do dual exhaust so he didn't have these parts.
I agree that the manifolds should be run without gaskets so that the engine coolant ran better remove the heat. I understand all that. I also agree that the single exhaust makes for better extraction while maintaining the correct amount of back pressure. I'm just not excited by the outrageous price of the Banks exhaust system that goes with these headers http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gbe-49254/overview/year/1997/make/ford/model/f53
$600 for a muffler, 2 pipes and an air cleaner cover, seems a bit over the top.
Here are my questions:
1. Does anyone happen to have a Y-pipe and connector pipe for these Banks Headers ('95 - '97 only)?
2. Any recommendations on ceramic coating and/or heat wrapping?
3. Does anyone know the exhaust pipe diameter coming out of the "Y-Pipe" into the single exhaust pipe?
4. Are high heat ignition wires needed with the Banks headers?
5. Can anyone recommend a good muffler for this application?
Any input will be greatly appreciated. I'm in my late 60's and I only plan to do this once.:B
