I've heard from owners of 460-powered long Class A's that, when pulling hard up a grade, with a wide throttle opening and low forward speed, the manifolds can be glowing cherry red. Certainly, my '85 Class C would get the doghouse surface inside the cab hot enough to melt the soles of DW's tennis shoes(through the carpet and the aluminum heat shield on the engine side of the doghouse).
