No I didn't have a need to coat or wrap the headers. The headers made my floor and dog box cooler. No problem with the plug wires, Banks said to throw away the heat shields from around the plug wires as they were no longer needed. They did however supply a heat shield that wraps around the starter. I have a large loom of battery cables that run up the frame on the passenger side that I wrapped with heat shield from Autozone just in case because they were within inches of the header.
