- rvsolutionsExplorerGreat engine, do not fill p at truck stops, the Mercedes is limited to no more than 5% biodiesel and the major truck stops all pump 20% or more, we have no problem finding Chevron or Shell or Sams Club

Avoid using an aftermarket oil filter on the Sprinter. It won't seal right, and under heavy load the O-ring can blow out, and make a HUGE mess, which could be a fire hazards. The one I saw this happen on on a 2010. He made it 10 miles out of town, and it blew out on the first big climb (~6% grade). Stick with the OE stuff for this motor.
The Sprinter engine does not use an oil filter that spins on. It is instead a cartridge insert, covered by a permanent canister-type of cover. The instance you describe was not caused by the wrong make of filter, especially since it is not the filter that does the sealing. It was caused by someone not seating one - or both - of the two O-rings that seal the outer canister cover.
I would wager that the person who changed the oil completely negelected to replace the inside O-ring, which is only about 1/2" in diameter. - nomad_289ExplorerI have the '08 Mercedes sprinter diesel in my Jeep GC. Great engine, 60K miles thus far.
One problem @43K--one glow plug burned out which also shorts out the control module. ~$100 for plug and $400 for module. - carringbExplorerAvoid using an aftermarket oil filter on the Sprinter. - fpar5578Explorerthanks for all of your comments.
- mm047ExplorerThe tranny in the Sprinter has an electrical sensor that likes to leak. I don't remember what year it was fixed, and is is a pretty cheap repair. Mine was done under warranty a couple years back.
- DakzukiExplorer III had one I bought new. I have had no issues. I do my own maintenance so there's no significant issue there. I have no problems finding diesel. I think that's a thing of the past. The roomy cab really sold me on the Sprinter. After driving one there was no way I could go back to a dinosaur Ford....and yes I drove new Fords.
There is a View/Navion group here that is very informative. - DakzukiExplorer II

That was peculiar to the 5 cylinder engine. - funtogoExplorerYou might have to replace the turbo resonator on the engine. Many of them have gone out on the earlier year sprinters.
