Just an opinion...for what its worth.
1. SIZE: I would stay under 28ft...for me just easier to drive, plus during the summer a lot of time (hopefully) will be spent out of doors. You will have a huge living room ;-). Also the shorter units will have less issue with tail dragging plus have more carrying capacity for stuff.
2. SLIDES: If you are moving around a lot..slides not required. The extra room is nice, but it can also add complications if it gets stuck in the out position ;-(.
3. AIR CONDITIONER: With the shorter unit you should not need two air conditioners. We find on our 26ft unit that the dash air provides adequate cooling when traveling and the single conditioner is fine when stopped. If needed you can run the generator and house air conditioner for extra cooling when traveling.
4. GENERATOR: Our generator uses about 1/2 gal per hour....never over 3/4 gal.
5. MAINTENANCE: No guarantees, but we have purchased two used (one class c 2003, and one B+ 2007) and have traveled from coast to coast without any serious mechanical issues. There have been minor issues that I have been able to correct, some we just lived with until back at home base where it was easier to fix. The motorhomes have never stranded us. The running gear is probably the most reliable part of the motorhome.
Look for a good one with no leaks. For me leaks are the biggest concern.
Have fun. You may not sell it when you return:-)
