If you had an insurance claim for a mishap, hitting post or pull off tie down on a bad pot hole road. When the adjuster comes to check they find old broken area under the slide out and/or rot and they say that was caused by previous rot and broken areas and poor engineering. The mishap just made it happen and if it was in good shape it would not have happened.So what do you do, say or claim...in that case? THX for feed-back.

My Dad was in the insurance business for many years, and here's one of the things he taught me: Insurance companies track every call you make inquiring about coverage for specific losses. If you already have them involved, you might as well go through with the claim. (This regardless of whether you talked to a claims operator or "your" agent. Their first responsibility is to the companies they represent). The fact that you've reported an "incident" goes down in your record just as if you've filed a claim; paying out of pocket instead of with their money won't make a bit of difference in that department.

Call the AG's office. Would insurance cover if a ball joint failed and your front left or right suspension failed due to that. Lots of things don't become apparent till after an event. That's why they're called accidents. I understand a lot of insurance first response is denial and you have to push to get what you want. Talk to the Attorney Generals office. Send them copies of correspondence and see what happens but don't take no for an answer first thing. Make that wheel squeak loudly in your insurances ears. I'm sure Lance would like a chance to address the accusation of poor engineering.

I made two separate calls to ask about coverage etc. Next thing I know, my rates went up for that very reason.

You see that if you call as said above they take your name and info and record the call in your file...when she calls she says she wants to verify something in a policy...without saying who for. It is a good practice...also my agent has been able to meet/beat anything I could do on my own and on my boat policy it has even better coverage than I could get for about 2/3's what I was being quoted. So far thx for the info.

FK, I expect that it will happen, nice thing she has many companies she deals with.

TLee, You are right about that, no arguement here...but it is always worth a try all they do is say NO...

Not the insurers job to pay to patch up a rig that has fallen apart through old age or neglect. If that were true we would all be riding around on near-new rigs.

I didn't involve the insurance co until I had to the agent could do no more. Yes she called me back and told me that well at least they cannot raise the premium until next renewal as it has just been renewed a few monthsw ago.

I am waiting for the foraml letter to come from the ins co. YES I will be making more noise..I have been known to get a 'bee in my bonnet'! THx for the link.

I am not done just yet. Thx for the support.

My Dad was also in the insurance business for many years until he retired, and he taught me the very same things you mentioned. It is very true of what you said about not calling your insurance company, but to call your agent instead about advice on a particular matter as he/she knows how to get around the insurance company on that subject without involving their client

Update: The insurance co will not cover any of the damage as it is not "sudden and one time occurance", I think is the termenology. OH well! Moving right along!!! Can't say I didn't try.
