I am on my third extended warranty(service contract) none of them from Good Sam. I have come out just behind, slightly ahead and way ahead on cost vs repairs paid for- the last one paid $7500 in two breakdowns within in three weeks just after I renewed it for four more years. Repairs were almost double what the contract cost me and I had 3.75 years left to go!
I am NOT handy - screwdriver, duct tape and checkbook are the tools I use for most repairs unfortunately. This new coach is a Diesel pusher and I absolutely decided to purchase extended contract, which was not cheap. Into the second year of 7 years and have already had $700 worth of repairs and the coach is currently in the shop with a slide issue - I believe dead slide motor which will be covered. ANY major component goes on the diesel and I will likely be $$$ ahead. Five more years of not worrying over a potential repair bill works for me.
I know, many say bank that money and self insure. Does not protect me from a $20-30K repair bill if that motor blows, and yes I know that is unlikely. For me the cost of the contract is part of RVing without all the (financial) worry. Works for me. May you never need to use one of these but things wear out and break on RVs all the time............... Best of luck!
