PC,
Well Sir, you know as well as the rest of us that purchasing any EW is a gamble. Now don't get your potatoes over fried here. This is just something to think about. Folks have been purchasing EW packages for decades and some have been fortunate that they did because they needed it if and when a time came and something broke. But, there's also the ones that purchased it and it didn't cover squat because of the fine print.
There are stories and stories of how something broke, on or in an engine, or transmission etc. and cause extensive damage to other parts of the said engine or transmission. But, the warranty ONLY covered the broken part, not all the extensive damage to the rest of the components.
So, yes, it's most certainly your money and you have the right to spend it any way you choose. So, all you have to do is determine if, THE PRICE IS REASONABLE as you put it, to purchase just a drive train EW. But, just make sure you read all the micro-fine print and/or, call the company and discuss things like, if this breaks and causes damage to this, that, or other things, or all the above, will you pay for the damage to all the surrounding components of the item that broke. Or, another way of asking the same question to them, if this breaks, WHAT WON'T YOU PAY FOR? Then you can make an informed decision as to whether the price is "REASONABLE" for what you'd be getting in coverage. Just a thought here.
