We travel frequently in the States and were pleased that as Canadians, we could get a New York State EZ-Pass for our Roadtrek 190. It's worked without a flaw.
Contrast it to the rip-off we have here in Ontario, the privately owned Highway 407 ETR (Electronic Toll Route). There are no toll booths, and if you don't have a transponder (we don't), they take a picture of your plate and you'll get an exorbitant bill in the mail, even if you don't live in Ontario. Take a look at
THIS.
The 407 was originally built as a public-private partnership and after a 35 year period, the highway was to be "handed back" to the public. An election brought in a new political party which decided to "lease" (i.e. sell) the 407 to a private consortium for a - get this - 99 year period. Needless to say, it's been a nightmare ever since for residents and visitors to our beautiful province.
So some folks may have beefs with EZ-Pass, but consider yourselves fortunate that you don't have a 407. :(
