F53 Full Fluids Service Price Check

I'm fortunate that my local Ford dealer services large Class A's. They say they have at least 2-3 every single day.

We bought our coach used this past fall. Looking to change out all fluids for peace of mind. It is 7 years old with 9k miles.

I do a good bit of basic maintenance at home, so I'd like to do it myself if I can. However, some of these items I've never done before.

I want to know two things. First, does the price seem in line and two, do you think I can tackle it myself. My abilities in the past have been, oil change, filter change, brake pad change.

Local dealer list:

Engine oil: $150 (I've already done myself)
Transmission flush (100% pressurized) $239
Brake fluid: $99
Coolant flush: $139 (think I can do)
Differential gear oil: $190
Power Steering fluid: $99
Fuel injection and induction cleaning: $139

Everything looks in line to me. What do you think? Is there anything I should add that is overlooked?

Thanks.

I'm willing. I can't seem to find good video tutorials on most of it though. Do you know of any?

I know I can't do 100% flush on the tranny. I suppose the vast majority just drop the pan anyway.

I wouldn't drop the pan or flush it. Open the lines to the transmission cooler and pump it out with the transmission pump. Refill and repeat until you've exchanged all the fluid. That gets all the fluid exchanged including the torque converter.

Those prices are outrageous. Do the work yourself. But if you must, don't make the dealer any richer than he already is. Plenty of guys out there to do the work for a lot less.

You can drain the differential just like an oil change and refill for a few bucks.

The differential in the F53 varies depending on weight ratings, minimum 7 quarts of synthetic axle lube. Some a lot more. Price 75W-140 and it's not as cheap as you seem to think.

Of course you can always find someone willing to do it cheaper. They'll probably fill it with store brand 80W-90 and send you on your way.

  • Those prices are in-line with customary shop rates. If you choose to have them do the work, your not being cheated.
You will however, save hundreds by doing the work yourself.
