F53 Torn Grease Boot

Hi all,

My 2013 F53 Chassis RV only has 5500 miles on it. Changed the oil this morning and went to lube the chassis. The pitman arm lower grease boot (not sure the proper name of the boot) is split open on the back. grease just dumps out.

What kind of repair am I looking at? Can I just remove the pin & castle nut, separate and replace? Can I silicon the boot back together again? Any tips? I noticed another boot has a pinhole in it as well.

Thanks, Jeremy

I was waiting to see what others would say about this. That happens all the time and is not a problem. They just keep dirt out of the joint. To replace it just remove the carter key and loosen the nut to the top of the threads. You should use a tie rod knocker but may be able to just lay a hammer on top of the pin and hit hard. Also you can hit the side of the pitman arm where the pin goes thru.and it will help. To get a dust cover I would go to a frt in shop and ask if they have an old one to give you. I have never seen or heard of anyone replacing these boots. Just keep greasing often. MOHO

Siliconing the sucker closed and never looking back!

  • The pin hole should be there to allow Grease to escape. The torn one if you can find one can be replaced. If just a small tear I might just leave it.
