Torn awning seam...

I used Gorilla tape on mine it held for 2 years until this summer when a 40 mph cross wind tore the awning. I had an awning lock aft that locked but the front came undone allowing the awning to tear diagonally. I would clean both sides with acetone and apply 2 strips overlapped by 1/2 in top and bottom.

Just made sure the area was clean, and taped both sides. Sorry I don't have any pictures. For a temp repair I would give it a good try, I had good luck. It as not gotten any bigger, yet.

Ours is a canvas awning - did that same thing in a windstorm and hubby stood on a ladder and resewed the seam by hand with marine outdoor rv protection thread. I held the edges together while he sewed. Was difficult in the wind, but we knew if we didn't take care of it , it would be damaged further. We figured out that ours was stressed in that spot from the anti-flapper things you fasten at the edge. We don't use them anymore,we just drop the front edge of the awning, or put it in if it's going to be windy.

My BIL had the same type of tear.. He used the clear awning repair tape and it worked fantastic...

Problem with that idea is that the rip is right at the seam, one side of which disappears into the metal channel. And a quick fix doesn't include trying to pull the entire awning out of that channel.

PS When I was in the Navy, I learned how to sew heavy canvas. Good times, only in a memory sense though.

Now that I think about it though...that might work long term. I have heavy duty curved needles.

I would use a sewing awl and stich it up with 15 lb braded fishing line. I bought my awl 45 years ago at Tandy and it still works fine. Makes leather, vinyl and canvas repair a cinch.
