Family Motor Coach Rallies

I joined a couple of years ago when we got our MH because it was exclusive and I liked hanging out with folks that have the same interest.

I'm not voting on the issue as I believe I don't haven enough history with them to qualify as a voter in reality, but it would be sad to me if it opened up to all types of RVs. I would probably drop my membership at that point.

In all my recent dealings with almost 50 FMCA Chapter Presidents, I have NEVER heard of a prospective chapter member being voted on as to whether they could join the chapter or not. My chapter's catchment area is roughly the state of VA, but we would never reject an FMCA member who wanted to join our chapter whose home was not in VA. We have members now who are from NC, VA, MD, PA and NJ. We even schedule our monthly rallies in those states to ensure all members get to come.

As for the FMCA membership vote to change the organization by-laws to allow "towable" RVs, I don't see an Executive Board fix on that vote. Informal pole of about 20 of my fellow chapter members, and none were planning to vote for the change. Most are happy with being a motorhome organization, and feel FMCA is getting better as the RV industry as a whole gets better.

Just to be specific. In order to join Tiffin Travelers Chapter you must own a Tiffin motorhome. To join Habitat for Humanity Chapter you are expected to participate in Habitat builds. to be a member of the Fingerlakers you need to homebase in the region since all of their events are held in the region.

Chapters can make their own rules about membership based on their charters. I doubt it would be acceptable to exclude someone for being a Muslim, unless you were looking at a Roman Catholic Chapter and I doubt a serious drinker would care to join Friends of Bill (although they would welcome such a person if they wanted the help). And on and on. I am sure the CHAI chapter for Jewish members would welcome you so long as you aren't trying to convert them to some other religion. Have I skipped anyone :)

What's missing here is what happens when someone wants to join your chapter, you reject them because they are black, Indian, Mexican or, God forbid, from Indiana and driving a trailer and they sue the chapter adn FMCA for discrimination? Either FMCA IS an inclusive organization or they are NOT. Allowing a chapter to decide whether they are going to allow towables or not is just a recipe for disaster.
This is going to be a flat out elimination of the concept upon which FMCA was built.
As an aside, the FMCA membership is going up and not down. It just appears that it's not going up as fast as the folks who collect a salary would like (FMC owners).

But Bill, the chapters have always been allowed to reject a member applicant. At the end of the second visit we vote on allowing membership. Nothing has changed in that respect. Haven't seen any chapter sued for discrimination yet.
The only issue that may change is allowing self contained towables.
Please, if you insist one being radical, stay away from the FMCA.
It's not our style.

No sure I see the issue.

There have always been a large number of "brand-specific" chapters within FMCA. Some allow SOB's (Some Other Brand), many do NOT.
