- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIKeep in mind that you can't compare costs between two different people. Insurance is an individual thing and takes into account your age, driving history, credit score, where you live (even different counties in a state)among other things.
- Monkeyman_and_LExplorerMy Nationwide agent said he'd be happy to have my business again. If Farmers begins to up our rates and we're looking to rebid.
We were near perfect clients too. Only one homeowners claim in 25 years (inexpensive one at that, and they got restitution), and only 1 or 2 minor at fault accidents. Again over 25 years with the same company.
We'll be more vigilant. We have a 12 year old, and know that once he's driving the costs will go up. But we expect that. The rates we were paying are about what we expect to pay once he starts...not now that we're both skirting 50 years old. - Sultan1966ExplorerFull timer so my coverage may different if you aren’t but have motorhome, truck and golf cart thru Progressive via FMCA in TN. Looked at becoming Florida residents and coverage would have tripled..stayed Tennessee residents and go back to vote, dr visits annually, get mail there, license renewal etc.
- NCC-1701ExplorerSwitched to Farmers in mid November last year. I had Progressive for my three private vehicles, motorhome, boat, and ATV. Another company for my home. Farmer's saved me approx 30% in the end for better insurance. I have only had a few comp claims over the years, no "at fault" accidents, but Progressive kept jacking my rates. I usually do a complete rebid every 3 years or check sooner if there is a big increase. I had been with Progressive many years. Despite all their proclaimed discounts, etc. they had become uncompetitive. The biggest savings were on my motorhome and homeowners.
No one else had beat Progressive or the other smaller "regional" insurer I had my homeowners with for many, many years. The Farmer's agent said I met the criteria of exactly what Farmers liked, hence the low rates...I guess that means someone that pays in, but virtually never extracts back out or has 'At Fault" accidents.
My experience with insurance is they start out lower, then keep edging it up year after year, even if you are a "perfect" client, until someone else hungry wants your insurance premiums more. The key is to periodically bid out all your insurance and see what comes back for pricing. - CampwmeExplorerWe just last week switched to Farmers. Already had them for our cars, at the time they had nothing available for our motorhome. He called us and gave us a great quote when it became available. Little over $200 yr in savings switching to Farmers, we also now have our home owners insurance with them. Total about $400 in savings between the 2.
- tinstartrvlrExplorerInsurance companies. Always such a fun topic. :)
- tropical36ExplorerAfter all, Farmer's have a museum to support, so.....:R
Give state farm and Allstate a call, as well as progressive and Gieco.
One of those should suffice. - Monkeyman_and_LExplorerThanks for the replies everyone.
Our situation is that our current insurance company is insanely expensive for our Auto coverage, but when we shopped around for a package we ended up nearly where they have us.
So far, the Farmer's quote is about 800/year better. May not seem like crazy money, but that'll make a payment on the motorhome. So, nothing to sneeze upon.
I'll let you know how it goes. - Trigger_HappyExplorerHad Farmers for 2 years but got way to costly. Shop around a bit for the best coverage and cost.
- azdryheatExplorerAll of my insurance needs are covered by Farmers. Great service when I had a claim.
