I agree with you. But also, I am beginning to wonder if the only reason why Mercedes will not allow their frame to be cut and stretched (or even drilled) has to do with the make-up of their box frame. It is not conducive to being modified in any manner. Once the box is cut, it looses it's strength, and possibly even it's shape. Welding a filler piece and adding plates and such would be so hard to assure the shape & strength is maintained.
The same would apply to the Transit, also with a box frame of a different configuration.
The E-Series specs on frame extensions makes sense with it's "C" frame. Trying something like that on any box frame seems difficult at best to yield any kind of consistency.
