Finally happened to me - RV broken into first time

The hunting cameras work great. When you start looking at the cameras they have some new ones out that will call your I-phone and alert you real time. There is a fee for the service I think it;s about 10 or 15 dollars per month. I would look at Cableas web sight.

I am a drag racer and 2 years in a row someone raided a bunch of motor homes at Zmax divisional race----took only expensive watchs, credit cards and cash. He got in mine but nothing was missing. Got all my neighbors credit cards and $500 cash. Happened once more in Fla. I think they finally got the guy at a race down that way and he had been doing this for awhile targeting races like these.....each class parked together and when we were called up to race--BINGO--not a soul in the area and he would strike hitting every unit that was not locked.

20 years of back packing and tent camping from '65-'85 and then rv camping since then in pop-ups to the MH and never lost anything from a campsite or on the road. I guess that some folks just have that problem. We did store our last trailer in a fenced lot,but it was open 24/7 as there was a taxi outfit operating out of it. The people next to us suggested that we remove the 6V batteries from the tongue of our TT and we never had any problems there.

When you leave the doors open do you also leave the keys in the ignition and a pile of cash out in plain view? If not, is it because of paranoia? Being cautious and not wanting your stuff stolen or messed up is not paranoia, it's common sense.

Oh such paranoia! In 13 years we have had one incident in our first storage area, they took the exterior camera off the back of the coach, that was 12 years ago. I store in an open lot with gate and fence enough to stop a determined 12 year old (maybe). It is on a high traffic road, but not terribly visible, have not had anything taken there.

Times are getting worse, that is the economy. We have noticed people cruising the campgrounds, some just to see or go to the beach but some not. See something that is easy enough to take it is gone. They use to close a gate at our most visited destination at 10:00. Some campground have a barricade and use a code but that doesn't stop some easily getting it and hitting us.
Storage is an easier target. They need to be made harder. Concertina wire and double fencing and secure gate and a number that guests are responsible for. That has flaws too. They pulled a small camper into one, and left wit first one and cam back and got several.
Lights and alarms to security. If you are going to spend 300.00+ for parking your RV it should include a high level of security. If they store just 30 units at 300 a month that 9,000:00 plus whatever other services they sell. They can afford a thousand a month for an armed watchman.
Just about every available space is being taken up this time of year. And more than thirty units.

I'd dry camp in it a few nights, sit just inside with the door open but the screen door shut with a big dog and a shot gun or simply move it somewhere else, phone in hand ready to call 911!

Is your rig the only one at that site. If not, I'd contact the other owners so they can also watch out for intruders.

I'm sure glad we don't have to try to store our rig away from home.
