I brought the engine home yesterday. The guy was off a decade on the date code - it's a 1990 block, not 2000. It's a Mark IV block. Outside is a bit rusty from sitting in a leaky shed, but the inside looks great - very low mileage. I'm going to replace all the gaskets (except head gaskets) and seals and pop it in. It has a Quadrajet with a manual choke. I'm going to swap that out with a Holley that I have laying around.
The engine was installed in a toy hauler and has the right parts for a truck application - "tall" truck heads and an Edelbrock Performer 2-0 intake. Not sure what cam is in it, but hopefully it's a good match.
I took the old engine apart yesterday. Not really much of an explanation beyond that the #3 cylinder simply split apart at the wristpin. Wristpin was intact and it really beat up that cylinder wall. Hope to get a few bucks for it and the heads from the scrap metal guy later today.
