First long trip

Just returned to the Seattle area after putting 3000 miles on our (new to us) 2002 Itasca Sunrise 32V pulling a 2009 Jeep Wrangler toad with 2 grandkids, 2 dogs, our daughter, wife and I. Went to Bullfrog in Lake Powell, Moab, SLC and then Pocatello before heading home. Rig ran fine, air conditioning worked well (thanks god, it was 112 in Bullfrog). Weather was good except for a nasty thunder/wind/rain storm in northern Utah/southern Idaho, (lost the access door to the fridge on the outside of the coach). As we are new to RV'ing, this was a good trip. Saw lots of coaches pulling toads on the roads. Thought gas was pricey everywhere, and I swear the roads in Washington State are the worst. Anyway, good times were had by all.

  • We got 6.4 mpg average for the trip. We did run the generator quite a lot however during the trip as the temp was very warm and the cab air does not cool the coach adequately. I've heard the generator uses approx. 1/2 gal/hr. We have an Onan 5K gen.

Do you know about how many MPG you got with pulling your vehicle?

I plan for 6mpg with my mh(V-10)\ lifted JKUR combo, but I usually avg 7mpg.
  • Only 90% of PA? They must have run out of Schneider Eggs. That's what truckers call the orange barrels as they believe they hatch Schneider trucks. I 85 in VA is deplorable, I 20 in MS and LA are worse. MT and NV have great roads and WA isn't all that bad.
  • Congrats on the successful and enjoyable 3K trip. We're from NY and made our first long trip (2.5K) in April to FL. By comparison the roads in most of the eastern states we traveled were very good compared to the Cross Bronx Expressway :).
  • Glad your trip went well, that is always a plus :)

We are leaving soon for a 2 week, approx. 3000 mile trip as well (with 2 teenagers and 3 dogs) and I sure hope ours goes as well as yours!

SO glad you had a great trip!! However, as fulltimers, let me tell you that Washington state has GREAT roads compared to many other states. We just cut across PA and I am guessing about 90+% of the entire freeway was under construction and a complete mess. TX last year was tore up too. MI was pretty bad too. We are in New York now and not great, but have certainly seen worse!
  • yeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh! we are heading out soon from tx to get to cooler climes too! New to us rig is on the way. we are SOOOO excited! pics later!

    waited sooooooooooolong!
now tht day is finally near!
  • We're headed up your way next month to get out of the 110 stuff. Keep it cool for us.............
