IMHO extended warranties are worthless, especially if they do not cover the drive train. What possible repair could justify $4k if the power train is excluded? If you do make sure you read the fine print VERY carefully before you sign anything.

Regarding question#2: you SHOULD be able to trust them, but I would not. If you are not comfortable I would recommend finding an independent inspector.
