FIRST TIME MOTORHOME

:) GOOD MORNING..

MY HUSBAND AND I JUST SOLD OUR 5TH WHEEL FOR A 1996 DIESEL PUSHER. WE HAVE TAKEN IT ON SHORT TRIPS TO GET USE TO IT. BUT PLAN ON GOING TO THE SALT FLATS AGAIN THIS YEAR FOR SPEED WEEK:B. WE ARE LEAVING FROM CANTON OH ON PROBABLY JULY 31 WE CAN LEAVE SOONER IF WE HAVE TO. WE DON'T HAVE TO CHECK IN UNTIL AUG 9 IN WENDOVER ,UT. SO FAR WE WERE THINKING OF NOT ACTUALLY DOING ANY SIGHTSEEING UNTIL WE GOT TO MOAB. THOUGHT WE WOULD SPEND 2 NIGHTS THERE. AND THEN HEADING TO ST. GEORGE AND STAYING 2 NIGHTS THEN TO SALT LAKE CITY FOR A COUPLE . AFTER THAT WE WILL BE AT SALT FLATS FOR THE WEEK THEN GOING HOME.:h WOULD LOVE SOME ADVICE FROM THE SEASONED TRAVELERS!FOR ONE DO YOU THINK MY SCHEDULE IS DOABLE? AND ALSO WE REALLY DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY OF THE WHITE KNUCKLE ROADS JUST YET..

THANKS,
LEEANN
  • that was rude to accuse that poor guy of yelling. It could have been worded a bit more tactfully. Like saying,,, just fyi,,, or something like "you have your capslock on in case you didn't know,,, in the computer world tht is considered shouting"

Just saying... not to be rude or anything... ;)
  • Honestly I have no place that I know for sure besides SF. I really don't know how long it will take driving a MH. Last year with the 5th wheel it took 3.5 days with 2 breakdown's to get to SF. But from what I gather driving a MH is slower. We had stopped over night last year in Moab on our way home. We did see the arches and that's about it..besides the brewery in town:) I haven't had too many suggestions of things to see in Co or Ut. I had heard St. George was nice so that is why I picked it.I do realize we will be back tracking. I guess I want to see as much as we can without making it too rushed. This is basically a new adventure for us. Last year we pretty much made a straight shot out and back. So I'm open for any suggestion's. Thanks..
  • Like gus33 pointed out, St. George is way out of the way for where you intend to end up, but it's a great drive. You'll end up pretty much circling the entire State of Utah. Is that was you intended to do?
  • I did part of your trip last year. Enjoyed the first couple of days @ Speed Week in Bonneville, then drove straight to Moab. A nice scenic drive, no major climbs or passes, seems like about 6 hours from Wendover to Moab via hwy 6. If you are traveling I-70 from Denver, take hwy 128 to Moab. It follows the Colorado river for a long way and is a wonderful drive. Spend plenty of time in Moab.

St George seems like a long way out of the way for that schedule.

If it's you first time to Bonneville, take a big hat & sunscreen under your arms and any where else the reflecting sun can reach. It is a blast.

Welcome to the forum. Incredible information awaits you.

If you go to the website in the clicky there are several videos that are short and to the point. They will give you confidence in driving the new monster.

As a suggestion, using all caps is considered shouting when writing. Might want to turn the Caps lock off. :)
  • 2 nights in Moab is not enough. Arches and Canyonlands are there as well as Dead Horse Point State Park, a beautiful park well worth the drive and watching the sunset from the point. There is a great brewery in town too. ;)

I don't know about the rest of your trip but am sure someone else can comment.
