first travel trip from Fort Myers to Annapolis MD

Depends on which way you want to come up. I 95 is boring as any Interstate. I think there are 3 curves between Cape Coral and Rocky Mount NC. You can get off it and travel up the coast. If you give yourself 3 days that's about 325 miles a day which doesn't give you much time to tour. Stop in Savannah GA. It's very nice. It's 350 to Rocky Mount NC from there and is just another boring little city along I 95,On the way stop at South of the Border. on the NC-SC line, The USAs biggest tourist trap.
