1996 Motorhome up and running!! But what the heck was wrong with it.
Here what I did: Yesterday I installed a new coil. Didn't hurt to replace as it was probably original. That did not fix the issue of stalling and not starting.
This morning I went out and Checked the volts in all batteries. Engine Battery and both house batteries. They were all above 13.4 volts.
Last night just before I quit working on it I tried to start my generator to see if it would start. Click was all it would do. Now that's why I thought to check the batteries.
So this morning I remove the Ground Cable and the Positive cable from the engine battery. They were terrible. Not sure how they were making any contact. Now before you yell at me these had been cleaned in February so they should not have been in that bad of shape.
So I cleaned them really well and reinstalled them. I then went in to try to start the MH up and it turned over maybe twice and fired right up. Purring like a kitten and sitting in front of my house I backed it up and drove it into the driveway to park it off the street as always.
I get in the drive way and set there for around 4 minutes at idle and it died. Went to crank it back up and it wouldn't fire. I set there for about a minute and tried it again and it fired right up and run smooth for at least 14 minutes.
It is now running fine and I will probably take it for a test drive later today or tomorrow.
But what could it have been doing. Was the battery cables just bad enough to not send electricity to something. It's got me baffled except for the cables fixing it. The alternator gauge show midway in center of gauge where it has always run. So what do you all think was happening.
Thanks for all the help in getting this thing up and running and I have printed this off for future use should it arise again.
