Ford 5 speed Tranny fluid. Mercon SP or Mercon VL ?

Newer one should be LV. Older could be LV or Mercon, but I think Ford preferred LV. Just google Mercon SP VS LV, you will find more than enough confusing posts. I have been using LV in my 2006 since I owned it. There is a Ford TSB recommending it.
