From the decription someone gave, it sounds like if cable breaks you will just loose your indicator as to what gear you are in, but will still be able to select gears as required.
I would do my planned trips and get looked after when your travelling is done.
FYI---"New" regulation by the NHTSA on July 1st that if its a serious safety related issue and customer does not bring in for the work to be performed within 30 days..Ford (and all the other manufacturers also) is to use the technolodgy they have in the onboard black box and shut down (as in disable) your vehicle......:S
Just kidding about that last paragraph but after PRISM, it could come to this...:B
I agree.. it's just the indicator , go on the trip then get it fixed at your convenience when you get back
