Ford Triton and GM 8.1

Hi All,
Assuming both of these engines were well maintained how many miles can one expect to go before they need major repairs or replacement? What would you consider to be high mileage when looking at one to buy in a Class A? I know anything could go wrong at anytime but are there many of these out there going strong still with over 100K miles? Would like to hear from those of you who actually have higher mileage coaches with either of these engines.

  • Only have 50K miles on my 10 year old Ford V10. Oil analysis has been indicating minimal metals and other such wear indicators so I would expect to see at least over 150K before needing some type of major internal attention. Been on a few Ford truck forums and owners there are reporting 200K plus and still going strong. Not quite a direct comparison when you consider rolling weight but something to consider.

What I would consider high mileage for a gasoline power train would 10K miles per year average. In general the chassis and power train will probably outline the house built on it.
