Oops. Lost sight of the sub-forum this is in.
You can't, however, make a flat statement about vapors/smoke at startup because it depends on exactly WHAT it is and how much.
An engine with bad valve guides usually will drain oil down into the cylinders when it's off and puff smoke for a few seconds on startup. Most people can't tell water vapor from smoke just by looking.
