Hi All! Thank you to everyone for helping me decide what kind of Class B rig I wanted. I found one on Craigslist in Placerville, east of Sacramento, Ca, and bought it yesterday, Jan 11, 2014! It is a 99 Xplorer XLWT, and has 32,000 miles, new tires, and is very clean. I drove it home to San Diego, and got 13.5 MPG with it, at 60 MPH on the freeway. I paid $20,000 for it. The prior owners are having health issues, and couldn't use it any more.I must say, these things have way more storage than 2 people could ever use! I cleared out all the prior owner's stuff they gave me, and vacuumed all the cubbies, and it'll hold everything my fiance and I could ever want to put in it.Here is the proud new owner and his rig!GerardSan Diego

Nice ride! I see it has dual rear wheels, that should help with the handling problems Dodge had in those years. Take care of it and it should last a long time. Have fun!

Congrat!!! Wow, you drove almost 400 miles to buy it . What happen if it wasn't the rv you wanted ? :) Do you have any inside picture . It look nicer than my '99 Great West vans (but I paid a lot less) .

This one had such low miles (32,000) and was priced less that most with more mileage, that it was a no-brainer. I saw a few pics, and talked to the seller on the phone, and I trusted him to hold it for three weeks until I could fly from San Diego to buy it. The only way I wouldn't have bought it was if the mileage or condition had been misrepresented, and it was all as he said it was.It was "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" to get there Friday night though! My ride from home to the San Diego airport (50 miles) fainted and ended up at the hospital at 10 am, so I had to get another co-worker to take me at 5 pm. All the planes were 1-1/2 hours late, but I got on an earlier flight to Sacramento. I had to take the SuperShuttle from Sacramento to Placerville, 37 miles. Stayed in a hotel Friday night, then had to take a taxi Saturday morning to the bank where we met. After that, it went pretty normal.It ended up being 550 miles driving back Saturday. I hit Los Angeles after 11 pm, and that is the way to go...everyone is asleep...no traffic!Inside, it's just like most of them, except it doesn't have the 3rd seat behind the driver. Looks like you hit the jackpot with this one. The dual wheels add a lot of stability.

Welcome to Rv.net a caring and friendly place. Make sure your rig has been well maintained,especially re brakes and tires. Tires are not much good after 5 years,regardless of mileage. Check front end ball joints and also check re tire valve extenders for checking dualie pressure. Happy rving.

Welcome to the Xplorer world, the best of the Class B's. I love my 1997 Xplorer 230XL. I got it in 2000 with 18k miles on it & now have 147k. I will keep this one forever.

From what I've seen so far by peeking between the wheels, it appears the duals are mounted directly to the axles, with no spacers. I'll know more (and share pics) when I get the hubcaps off for external clean & shine this weekend.

The front wheels are standard Dodge Van issue, as is the spare. So, if there is a flat on the back, BOTH duals of that side have to come off to put on ONE spare standard wheel.

All 6 tires are the same size, at least, 245/75R 16.

I love that look on your face and we still see one just like it in the mirror when we head off on a trip. (Two weeks - Keys, here we come!)

My fiance is still in Texas teaching, so I'll solo the first couple of shakedowns...gotta figure out the rig and what needs to be carried, and what can be left behind.

The first long expedition is planned for Southern Utah during Spring Break in March. After she finishes the semester, we'll do a long cross-country trip in June.
