Freightliner Brake Controller Harness??

Does anyone know where to find the controller harness/pigtail to plug into the chassis wiring? I got a part number from Freightliner and the only place I can find it is through a Freightliner dealer for $140, yes that's one hundred forty.

I've checked Hopkins, Curt, and Tekonsha with no luck. I hate to cut the factory plug off to splice my controller in.

Thanks for any help.
  • I contacted http://www.etrailer.com I received a response very quickly and they gave me the part number for the harness. I bought the controller there, too. I was unable to find the pigtail under the dash of my RV so the local RV shop charged me a half-hour of labor to install the brake controller for me. Money well spent, in my opinion.

  • You don't have to cut the controller end off. Use the "piggy back" type connectors and splice it in. No cutting.
  • I have found the connector under the dash, I'm trying to locate the pig tail connector that plugs into the under dash plug. No one seems to have one for Freightliner.

You're way ahead of me when I was in your shoes! I just asked eTrailer for the part number for the harness they sold me last year. When I get it I'll send it to you.

    Thanks Pat
  • I just spliced into mine, not a big deal at all, especially for $140. Personally I think that it is atrocious that Freightliner doesn't have a built in unit standard just like most pickups do these days. Part of the reason I feel that way is that I had a terrible time finding a place to put mine. Finally ended up on the far left top side of the dash which is farther away than I would like. For $140 they should include the controller and mounting. For that matter, I am having the same problem with mounting a GPS and they should know that virtually everyone that buys one of these rigs wants a dash mounted GPS. While on the subject, controls for the wipers, lights and radio put within reach would be great.
  • I've been communicating with Caleb at eTrailer. I don't know your Freightliner chassis model number, so I'm kind of stuck. I'm sure you know your chassis model number, so you can contact Caleb yourself: calebh@etrailer.com or 1-800-298-8924 ext. 79376. He is very helpful and responds quickly to emails.
