freightliner service vs RV dealer

I'm new to the DP world having previously owned a gasser. I took my new DP back to the dealer for some minor warranty issues. One of the issues was that the turn signal would not hold in a right turn mode unless you held the arm up. The dealer told me I would have to take it to a freightliner service center for the repair as this was a chassis issue. Is this a normal response to issues involving the chassis? I could understand it if it was a major problem but it seems crazy to me that the dealer can't fix a little problem like this and now I have to drive hours to the nearest Freightliner shop.
Appreciate the thoughts of you experienced DP'ers.

  • Since your coach is new it would be a warranty issue. That is probably why your dealer would not work on it. Also a turn signal issue is somewhat unique. For an issue such as this you would not take a new Chevrolet to a Ford dealer. As a side note, it is a good idea to first go to your dealer because it can, at times, be difficult for an owner to understand what belongs to Freightliner and what belongs to the chassis manufacturer.
  • The chassis maker (Freightliner) made the chassis and did all of the wiring. While the dealer should have the wiring schematics, Freightliner will know ten times more about it and be quicker about fixing than the dealer will be. If it needs a turn indicator switch, the dealer would have to order from Freightliner anyways. Have you climbed under the chassis and looked at the wiring harness? Unless the Freightliner dealer was 500 miles away, I'd much rather take it to them.
