Freightliner Wheel Caps

A few weeks ago, I was on a dirt/bumpy road and lost one of my Freightliner wheel caps, and was about to lose the other one so pulled it off. The hardware attaching it was corroded, old, and obviously the cause of why they were falling off.

I contacted the local Freightliner supplier and was quoted $268 (!) to replace them. That, to me, is ridiculous. They wanted ~$70 per cap, and then 20 x $5 for what I assume is the hardware to attach the caps.

As an alternative, I know I can buy el cheepos from the local truck stop for $6.99, and found some moderately priced caps online for ~$20.

Anyone have experience with "generic" replacements? I highly value quality, and insist on it for my coach, but refuse to believe I have to spend $268 to get good wheel caps...

Thanks!

  • Freight liner in gaffney charged men 39.00 plus frt about 6 months ago.
  • Removed my holy front FL caps about 10 years ago & replaced them with unholy ones. Got tired of looking at the rusty hubs. Still have the old ones.
  • Thanks all! I'll call the Freightliner lady to clarify the price she quoted. With a couple of you paying $30 for the cap, maybe she made a mistake or quoted a price for the "premium" cap. If not, I'm going el cheepo. Will update this thread for any future shoppers when all's said and done.
  • I just replaced a front cap 22.5 wheel, chrome with the hole in the middle ordered from Freightliner for $29.00.

"$268.00", FOR ONE HUB CAP????? WOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! Something sure seems amiss here. I lost one of mine a couple of years ago and, I called the local Freightliner Dealer/Service center and gave them my last 6 of the VIN and, he looked it right up. The cost, right close to
$31.00. He said he could have it in one day. So, I told him, "Do it".

Now, our coach is an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT and, full body paint. The front hub caps have the "Freightliner" logo in the middle so, that's it was as high as it was. Otherwise, cheapo replacement ones, at the dealership were around $10 or $12.00.

I sure as heck cannot see any reasoning for $268.00 for one. That's insane.

On edit: I just re-read the OPs thread. I mis-read it originally. I thought it was $268 for one cap. Apparently it's for both and, all the little tiny spring clips that hold them on. Even at that, $268 for two hub caps is still flat out, ridiculous.

  • I bought mine off of Ebay - very reasonable. Here' set of four front ones for $45 plus $15 for shipping. You'll have spares for next time.

I've had them for two years and they look just as good as the original one.
