I've been through this. First thing is try screwing a garden hose to it and run some water through. I use my garden hose to add the water and the outside shower to let the water out so I didn't add to the tank. Doing this I got an additional year out of the leaky fitting. It would seal for the weekend after a blast of the water hose and then leak a few weeks later when I pulled it out of storage. Eventually the leak became persistent and I had to replace the fitting. If you're going to dry camp you need to stop it from leaking or it will keep running the water pump. For that I used a small hose shutoff end from Home Depot to positively stop the leak. I just left the end in the city water port but turned off while camping. You might even already have one of the shutoffs on your garden hose saving some money. Just screw it in backwards as the valve doesn't care which direction the water is flowing.

As far as pressing the little plunger in the center of the inlet be careful. Make sure you bleed the pressure out of the system first or it can blow the o-ring right out of the fitting and off into never never land.
