Fridge On Drivers Side

Question

We are looking to purchase a Class A that has the refrigerator in the slide on the drivers side. We like to spend several months each winter far south in Mexico where it is hot. With our current Class C, I'm thinking that the awning shading the backside of the fridge on the passenger side helps it be more efficient.

Are there others who have dealt with this and is it really a problem? Maybe I'm just creating one where there is none?

The problem with a refrigerator in the slide is air flow over the coils. Without a roof vent to encourage natural air flow, two side vents air used which significantly reduces airflow. That reduces cooling efficiency. You can overcome this issue with the installation of fans to move the air.

No question, an absorption refrigerator in a slide is less efficient-- the side vs roof vent gives less air flow.

To a degree, it can be compensated for by putting muffin fans at the top vent to enhance air flow.

And, yes, sun on the coach side also reduces refrigerator efficiency.

I don't like the refers in the slide due to poor venting / cooling and the extra weight in the slide.Our refer is on the driver's side and we're considering installing a canopy for it.Bill

HelloIf it has a compressor and not ammonia it shouldnt need much venting. Ammonia units make heat. Compressor style just move heat.
