Fridge on or off during storage?

I have seen both sides; some keeping the doors open to avoid mold, some say never turn the Norcold off, if you can help it. What say all you knowledgeable folks?
  • You don't say what type of storage. At home I always level and plug into elec. If no elec I shut off and crack door.

    Instructions say

Before the refrigerator is stored for an extended (seasonal)
    period of time:
    - Defrost and clean the interior of the refrigerator.
    - Close the doors with the storage latch.
If the refrigerator is stored for an extended period of time, before
    start up:
    - Make sure there are no obstructions in the vents, the
ventilation air pathway, or the flue area.

  • Well...........

DO you have your MH plugged in to AC Power Source when in storage?
(RV Fridge needs 12V DC in order to function be it electric or propane. It will not last long on propane w/o batteries being recharged!!)

Is your MH level when parked in storage?
(Rv Fridge needs to be reasonably level to avoid damage)

Is your reason to run fridge because you want to leave items in it or just for mold/mildew issue?
(Mold/mildew easily avoided by propping doors open for free.....running fridge will do same but cost you roughly $30+ month in AC Power)

No real data that leaving on or turning off/on is better one way or other -------there are no mechanical parts to wear out etc.
RV Fridges DIE due to off level operation, lack of draft---overheating, improper installation

    Choose...no right/wrong

And I turn mine off and keep the door slightly ajar when not in use. I've been RVing about the same amount of time and this method works for me without burning electricity or propane. I've never had a reefer failure during that time.
  • We always turn ours off. What do you do when it runs out of propane in storage?

    Bill
  • I would leave it off, it used a huge amount of electricity or propane.

    Fred.
