So, the OP most likely had to use a dogbone to convert from his 50a plug to a 30a. Then that must mean that one leg of the 30a socket was wired for 240. Is that *ever* done in a home outlet, for any reason?
Yes, It is.
There are numerous electric dryers that use a 6-30 (230V-30A) receptacle.
I'm in line with the others. If OP stated he wanted a 30amp RV receptacle and the electrician wired in a TT-30 that fit his dogbone, then Electrician Blew It.
