I cant understand the "nastiness" some seem to exhibit! The guy made a mistake and as often as we see this issue on here, why would it be so surprising to anyone? Im sure if this electrician has done work for you before and he is, in fact, a friend.....he will step up to the plate and take care of business. Good luck.
Heck, since he obviously put in a two poll breaker (2/30), when he comes back out to make the repair and pay for the damages, have him add one more wire and put in the regular 50 amp outlet, matching your plug on the MH(wired correctly...2 hots, a neutral and a ground) then you'll have (2) 30 amp 110 volt for a total of 60 amps to your MH.
Please, do not have the electrician do this! The wire installed for a 30A/120V plug is not sized correctly for a 50A/120/120 plug. The wire size is wrong.
I have a 50 amp rv receptable wired in the above manner with 10/4 wire and fused with 30 amp fuses. Has worked fine for several years.
Hi Bluebird. Yes, it will work and I'm not surprised it has worked for several years. I'm just saying it is still not legal (NEC) to connect a 50 amp receptacle to a 30 amp circuit, even if the wire is #10 AWG copper with current limiting device (fuse or breaker) rated at 30 amps. At a maximum load, your RV will exceed the branch circuit rating. Please know I'm not trying to make an issue here. I would not want the OP to assume it's a legal option. Thanks.
Not making an issue either but Id like to see that NEC section that states what you are saying? Ive put in a number of RV 50 amp receptables(all of them inspected), some of them(not many) that used other than a 50 amp/220 breaker.
