fuel drain plug on bottom of the gas tank

Tank isn't hollow. Just has a ring to it when you bang on it. Be ready to catch some gasoline.

Would have thought the plug would be easy to turn since it must have some kind of sealant to keep from leaking. That sealant would also keep it from rusting in place.

so i went underneath and got the plug to turn quiet easy, i did not take it all the way out though. i was tapping and banging the tank and to me it sounded hallow. i assume because the main tank is double contained? the outer tank is the heat shield? does any one know for sure if i take the plug off will gas come rushing out?

I once tried to siphon gas out of my E350. Had no luck trying a few different tubes and hoses.
If it is still running, I would take a drive and run it as low as I could get it. If the fuel pump has any life left maybe you could jumper power to it with the gas line opened at the fuel filter and get most of the fuel out. I changed a car fuel pump, inside the tank, once, and it was very tough lowering the tank at a quarter full.

This past summer I had to have the fuel filler and vent hoses replaced on mine. The truck repair place I went to drained the tank through the drain on the bottom, lowered the tank to do the repair, replaced the drain plug after the repair, and to this date no leaks are apparent.

I personally wouldn't want to try to open it. It is likely frozen shut, and if you get it to open, it may be impossible to ever get closed again.

Perhaps something like a Mityvac or a fluid extractor pump to get the gasoline out, then once that is all done? I swear by oil extractor pumps, because it is a lot easier to use one than to pop the cork underneath, and hope I had the oil pan in the right place.

That's it. We have one. I've never put a wrench to it. Hopefully it has a sealant on the threads, a "dope" or Teflon Tape or equivalent. Any of those would mean it'll loosen after years and years of being undisturbed. That tank is still going to be heavy. Can you get access to a Transmission Jack or Motorcycle Jack?

My recollection is that there is no drain plug on the E series tank

I looked a some images (E series manual) of the tank parts and could see no sign of a plug
